How to Care for Your DTF Printed Garments

care-guide-v3

You spent the time designing, you got a beautiful press - now let's make sure it lasts. Proper care is the difference between a transfer that looks fresh after 100 washes and one that starts cracking after five. Here's what we tell every customer who walks out of our shop.

The Golden Rules

1. Turn It Inside Out

Before it goes in the washing machine, flip that garment inside out. This protects the print from direct contact with other clothes, zippers, and the drum of the washer. Simple step, huge difference.

2. Cold Water Only

Hot water is the enemy of adhesive bonds. Always wash in cold water. Every washing machine has a cold setting - use it.

3. Skip the Fabric Softener

This is the big one that catches people off guard. Never use fabric softener on any printed garment. Fabric softener is a stringent - it will literally break down the adhesive bond and destroy your transfer. We've seen it happen too many times. If you want softness, use a gentle detergent instead.

4. Low Heat in the Dryer

Tumble dry on low heat or hang dry. High heat can reactivate the adhesive and cause issues over time. Low and slow keeps everything locked in.

5. No Dry Cleaning

The chemicals used in dry cleaning are not compatible with DTF adhesive. Just don't do it.

What About Ironing?

If you need to iron a DTF-printed garment, iron on the reverse side (inside of the garment) and avoid pressing directly on the transfer. Or better yet, give it a quick press with your heat press on a lower temperature to smooth out any wrinkles.

Storage Tips

Store printed garments folded with the print facing inward, or hang them. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of the printed area for extended periods.

Follow these steps and your Fresh Prints DTF transfers will look vibrant wash after wash. We stand behind our print quality - but the care is on you. Treat your transfers right and they'll treat you right.
